Phyllis Glover Pinckney
November 10, 1938 - January 16, 2011
Savannah - Phyllis Glover Pinckney, 72, died January 16, 2011 at Hospice Savannah, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband James Linehan Pinckney. She was born November 10, 1938 in Pooler, Georgia and graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1956 and St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. From 1963 to 1992 she lived in Orangeburg, SC where she worked as a registered nurse at Orangeburg Regional Hospital, the Regional Medical Center, and was active in the public school system. She was also a partner in her husband's business, Carolina Auction and Land Co., Inc. In 1992, she returned to Savannah where she was employed by the Visiting Nurse Health System and Tara Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Thunderbolt. Surviving are her five children James L. Pinckney, Jr. Tammi of Columbia, SC, Mary P. Horn Michael of Summerville, SC, Mark G. Pinckney Janice of Fort Mill, SC, Phyllis V. Curley Richard of Virginia Beach, VA, and C. Andrew Pinckney Lisa of Rock Hill, SC, nine grandchildren, and sister Fleta G. Pepper Donald of Pooler, GA.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service at 6:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Saint Andrews Catholic Chapel in Bluffton, SC. Burial will follow in Pinckney Colony Cemetery.
